Hopefully the site will continue to grow steadily. The Salute pictures are still actually pulling people in, and there are hits from various links every month, which is great. The lack of Epic stuff here is due to several reasons (in my opinion). Firstly, Paul and our friends over at www.epic40k.com have a great site which is very active already. Secondly, Epic is simply not as popular as Gothic right now. I have been concentrating on Gothic resently to get this place ready for the new edition and to put it in a position that the new players would want to visit. I hope to get more Epic stuff up here, with the new edition if this I have a few things up my sleeves, som eof which might surprise you. In the meantime, feel free to send in whatever you like, from either game. All of it is very much appreciated!

Well the competition has ended, and a lot of the posting has too. I hope this is just a coincidence. I admit though, I will find it hard to visit the net much at the moment. I've just had an offer excepted for a house (my first), so A lot of my time is being taken up by sorting out solicitors, mortgage advisers, blah blah, etc. Once its all done though, I'll have my very own games room!

I am trying to convince myself that the lack of activity here is a coincidence, since we didnt actually get that many new and regular posters last month. The site is not expanding as quickly as I would like, and there are still a few things that I am simply not happy with. Things will have to move slowly and there is not much that I can do about that.
Great news about your move. I had a foldable games table built at home. It is great to be able to leave a game running and come back to it another day!

Well the move is still going ahead, but there is so much work involved its really annoying. I've already had several arguements with my girlfriend about it all. Hopefully once everythings over it'll have been worth it. Trouble is it could be around 6 weeks before its all sorted!
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was how does the ranks work? What are there etc. I noticed my rank had changed, I didn't realise you had some set up. Where do they change at (post count) and whats the options?

The board comes with a very basic set of ranks. So the ranks are:
Scout (0 posts) Foot Soldier (50 posts) Tank Commander (100 posts)
Then there are two more, but I will wait a bit so that I dont spoil the surprise (I know, a cheap effort to make people post here!). But, I will say that the next ranks are at 250 and 500 posts! So, you have a bit of a wait.

Just to let you know I am still here! I don't want people think I was here for the compatition alone. My free time has been severly limited recently but that looks like its over so maybe I can get to work finishing those articles I promised you CyberShadow

That would be great. Believe it or not, articles are actually coming in faster than I can get them up online right now, which is great news! I just received about five, from one guy. This is a combination of the competition creating interest and articles, and me running short on time. Things might slow down a little for the Summer - I have a serious amount of work to get done for a deadline, and then I have a holiday planned.
Still, I hope that it wont get too bad, and I will put in as much as I can. Articles are always welcomed Blacksnotling.
Currently, I am working on improving the Players Index, with the idea that it could be linked from lots of sites. That way, a lot more people would see it, it would grow, and we could list the sites that 'hosted' it as free advertising. But, that means getting through the Perl script to get this thing working well.
Hits are also something that are confusing me right now. I have basically two counters, which are giving completely opposite results! One says that June was the slowest month for the site, the other says that we got 10000 hits! I have given up on this completely and I will sort it out at a later date.

Maybe one counter is showing all hits (including refreshes et all) and the other is only showing seperate users who viewed the site, not how many times they view it. Don't hold your breath for those articles though! I promise they will be done asap. The ideas and content arn't the problem. finding time to sit down adn write them are, as I am sure you know

Well the front page is filling out nicely. A few articles up, and pics. Well done Blacksnotling on the Games day coverage. I couldn't go in the end (despite only living about 20-30 miles away) as I was shopping for Fridge Freezers and washing machines Bloody houses. I have got some plans of articles to get in to you, but with the move (I move into my house on Friday) everything 'hobby' related has been put on the shelf a bit, literally. I see a few new members have arrived to the forums too (hello), its a shame they dont post onto the boards. I dont know if they feel they dont have anything to contribte so dont bother, but I would hope they try. The more posters and topics, the better the site will be. And everyone elses opinions are always welcomed.

Yes, a big thanks to Blacksnotling for that. He worked to write it up that evening and spent a while taking notes, etc. As a result, we are again listed on Portents front page! There does seem to be a big gap between the number of people registered here or visiting, and the number of people actually posting. Yesterday we had up to 10 guests to these boards, but no-one new joined or posted. Speak up, all the lurkers out there. Start a discussions, get involved. What can we do to encourage posters here?

Hi, Just to show that some do read posts I speak for myself when I say that so far some of the subjects spoken about BFG, E:A I have either just started collecting or not even looked at. Although I have been collecting Epic for over 8 years or so and have every edition with the exception of E:A I havent played so many games. Hence the lack of comments because I dont have much to say atm for E:A and general rule posts. I have asked a few questions in general and hope to complete a couple of domatrix models so that I can field an SM army against my girlfriends' nids' army using SM2/TL rules. Once I have got back into the game flow then I can try out epic40k version of rules. So I need to get cracking on my painting projects The other thing is epic40k.com, I have written a couple of articles there and I have a couple that I promised to give and that I suppose doesnt help as many people go to epic40k as opposed to this site. I dont suppose Paul gets enough articles to probably split between the 2 sites? As some sort of joint thing. Just an idea. Douglas

One of the reason that I have not hounded you for articles and pictures (the Epic side of this place needs work) is because I know that you post and contribute to epic40k.com - That is fine, and the two sites can exist well together. However, I have tried hard to make sure that the players here are not the same as those visiting Pauls site (I want to attract new players to the game, not move them around), and I dont think that there are many people here who are as involved with the other site as yourself.
Paul has had a few troubles getting updates recently, where we have a few still waiting to go up, so feel free to send your stuff to him. When we need it and he does not, I will let you know! ;D

One of the "lurkers" tends to be me. My browser has trouble remembering its cookies so I have to log in each time I visit. So if I'm just browsing I don't bother and so just show up as a guest.
