whats the best way to cut sheets of plastic? (straight lines mostly) all ive got are rulers and knives, but that seems kinda unreliable.

Well, how thick are the sheets? Thin sheets can be cut with sharp scissors. Thicker sheets need a sharp knife and a strong straight edge (wood will get cut by the blade). Even thicker may require a hacksaw and a more serious approach! The last method is normally the best, if you can get the materials and hld the plastic in place well.

its .08 inches thick (about 2 mm). does that call for hack saw or straight edge and knife?

That might need a hacksaw. It depends how patient you are. Technically, you can cut it OK with a sharp blade, but it will take several strokes. It also depends what shape you are looking for. Curves are a lot easier with a hacksaw. Let us know how it turns out!

Try a jewelers saw, you can get one at most Hobby or DIY stores.
