OK. This is really starting to annoy me. I gave up on WD a while ago. They stopped supporting either Epic or Gothic, filled the mag with ads and stopped useful things like parts listing in Mail Order pages and painting guides or background stuff.
Then they almost redeemed themselves with the Index Astartes articles. I gave up on 40K after Rogue Trader, but the articles on the original Marine Chapters is a great idea (although reprinting them and asking people to pay about £40 for the set is just stupid). My own Chapter (which I put together for my Advanced Space Crusade games - ask me about it in another thread!) is derived from the Alpha Legion.
So, where the hell are the IA articles? This UK issue of WD is missing it, and the write up for the next issue does not mention it either! They have become scarcer as time goes on, and in TYPICAL GW fasion they are just losing interest in the whole thing. So, even if the Alpha Legion does eventually come out, it will be rushed and not very good. I give up, and just wait for the next time that the Mail Order team try to convince me to subscribe!

My younger brother went and bought that stupid Index Astartes annual thing, despite me telling him it was a waste, and that we have all the WD anyway.
WD is being taken up by more and more pointless adverts and has lost its useful articles. When it started dedicating 6 or so pages to IA it annoyed me even more as I wasn't interested in that (though I know a great deal of people will be). The battlereports are so short recently, with very little information given on what tactics were used, and the actual rolls etc of the game. Instead its become like miniture stories, which dont offer any insight whatsoever, no matter how nice they are. It needs improving and filling back up with useful stuff, and I wish the LOTR stuff would go away into its own magazine or something.

Have to agree with both of you! WD seems to be trying to lose then regain audiances on a regular basis. LOTR does need to go tnto it's own mag and if they want to run articles on SM's let at lest get new chapters into the mix. At this time I see no reason to renew my subscription.

i have renewed my subscription to white dwarf but am disappointed with the mgazine's contents, most of the articles are just re-hashes of an article that appeared a few months ago which in itself was released a few months before that, although i do enjoy reading the lotr articles

I think the LotR stuff should stay for the following reasons..
1) I collect the game:)
2) The more variety the beter. Now if they only put more Fanatic articles in.
3) If the LotR stuff moved into its own mag the production values would be much lower, which IMHO would be a bad thing
4) They would only replace it with more adverts anyway.
5) Quite a lot of the LotR players buy WD only for this coverage. If they stopped WD circulation would probably be dented and lower circulation figures may spark GW trtaditional remedy, a price raise!
6) Its a sneaky way of GW circumventing Newline's no mingling stance. The LotR stuff may attract a new section of the public to Games Workshop. Which could mean more players in the long run for all its games, including BFG/Epic.
Jackhammer, back after a bit of an absence

Its about time that they pic up the IA series. At the German Games-Day Andy CHambers was heard commenting that they were all written a year ago but due to sceduling and marketing problems (ie they wanted some minis o go with them) they were delayed and spread out. Personally i can't wait for the Alpha Legion. I may consider un-packing my old minis out of storage. Hopefully they will be ok in the new Codex. ps. I agree with Jackhammer. I think that the LOTR sections should stay. I just get fed up when there is only one article each month and it takes a huge chunk of the WD due to the adverts!

Rumours are that, in 40K, the Alpha Legion will be the only ones which will be able to take cultists. Which sounds fantastic. They will probably be limited in other ways to reflect their scattered bands of preachers style.
