OK, well Shadow Hunters Eldar list for Epic Armageddon is now online, in the Additional Rules section, and so I thought that I would start a thread to discuss it here. I have a points and questions about it, and when I asked him, Shadow Hunter suggested that they be aired here instead of privately so that we could all add a voice.
Firstly, I like the army list a lot – as is obvious as I would not add it to the site if I did not. However, my first worry is about the number of Macro Weapons in the list. My view is that MW’s are huge weapons, capable of leaving only a smoking crater where a Rhino was once parked. However, both the Fire Pike and Wraith Cannon are counted as MW. I find this a little too powerful and a bit unrealistic. I would rather have these weapons as ‘normal’ AT weapons, even if they are good and short ranged.
The other thing is that all of the Aspect armour is all the same save. This may be practical, but I don’t know if altering the armour save would firstly make the Aspects more characterful, and secondly give a reason to take the Aspects which are at the moment, a little weaker.
The Holofield rule is OK, but I didn’t know if a system similar to the original Space Marine could be adopted, where it depends more on the Engines order last turn, rather than the actual distance moved. It also leads to the problem that what happens if the engine has moved this turn already, does the save then depend on last turns order, or this turns?
Lastly, it appears that the D-Cannon on a simple support weapon is the same as the one mounted on a Cobra, and that the support version is also MW. I would suggest downgrading the support weapon D-Cannon, as the power cells of a support platform would be considerably less than a Cobra. I think that a MW on a Cobra is idea.
So, what do you all think? Any further comments? Lets start a discussion and perhaps Shadow Hunter can evolve the list into something which is ideal for the new edition.
Thanks.
