Well I have my first battle against necrons in 40K this weekend. My opponent has built his army deal, and wants to try them out. Its to be 1200pts.
I think I'm going to use my Eldar. Not sure what to pick though yet. I dont know wether to pick a pretty standard army, and see how they do, or tailor an army to be anti Necron. I'll post up my preliminary force I wrote for you guys to have a look at later.

Okay my list is this
HQ Farseer-Fort,Ghost,WBlade,Pist = 81
Elites 4Warp spiders + Exarch blades,xtr spinner,surprise att = 199
Troop 4 rangers = 76 4 Rangers = 76 15Guardian Def + Starcannon = 170 9 Dire Avenger + Exarch power weapon, shuriken pistol = 144
Fast 2 Vypers 1 scatter laser, 1 star = 120
Heavy Wraith lord,starcannon = 120 4 Dark Reapers = 148
Total = 1134
So I have some points left over. This can be used to midfy, increase units or whatever. Let me know what you guys think.
Tactics are generally to defend. Let him come to me. Whilst at long range I can pick him off with my sniper rifles and starcannons and reaper launchers. So he should advance, which will then let me attack with my many shuriken catapults. Whilst this is happening, My warp spiders are going to harass him, and chase down any destroyers, with the help of the two vypers (who aren't ina squadron).

Okay I'm the only guy talking on this thread, but its not the first time I've been caught talking to myself.
I've decided to do a different list. I want to include my wave sepent I'm finishing off. I say finishing, but what I really mean is started. Anyway, I'm gonna drop the warpspiders to fit it in, and I'm going to include 5 wraith guard and warlock into it. I think I'll keep the troops pretty much the same. I'll keep the Wraith Lord too, as it will look good next to the wraith guard. I think I'll keep the Vypers too, so that I have at least one fast unit. Which leaves the Dark Reapers.
I dont think I can afford them now. With a quick calculation, I'm left with about 60 pts. So I might include a D'cannon. This gives me quite a nice and resonably original army I think. None of the usual troops in there (banshees, scorpians, reapers, Falcon) I'll come back and say how I got on, naturally. And give a review of what the Necrons are like.
If I had a camera, I would take pictures and do a report of the battle, and building a waveserpent. But I haven't, and this is an epic and BFG site anyway.

I think that I would limit battle reports and things like that to Epic and Gothic, but I am interested in hearing how the Necrons now play. I cant really offer advice as I have not played 40K seriously since Rogue Trader!

Well I played the Necrons a few weeks ago. The mission ended up being meatgrinder, which means they dont suffer from phase out, which makes it fun.
I won anyway, My troops stayed alive well past the end of the game (we played til I died). He replaced 3 units of warriors, and they kept pounding me with thier gauss guns. The WL did well, and despite losing a wound very early in the game, was the last thing to die (it was surrounded by warriors, who can wound anything on a six, same as with thier guns) the Lord I killed with a warpspider exarch, but he had a regenerate thing and stood up with 2 wounds remaining. He killed my farseer with no problems (ignore inv. saves, so fortune was no help either) but my Wraith guard held up his Immortals well. I had two vypers (1 starcannon, 1 scatterlaser) and these were excellent for adding there firepower to where it was needed.
The scarabs are a pain though. They are very fast, and can bog you down if your not careful, kill them asap ideally with S6 weapons (autokill) or templates.
Thats about all I can remember, Oh get rid of the spiders asap too, which I did.
