I'm a bit unsure as to what the Emporer really was like. In any Imperial records/fluff, it always describes the Emporer as a powerful Psyker, that will battle with the powers of Chaos once released into the warp, yada yada yada etc etc.
Yet in Eldar fluff, they describe him as a weakling Psyker. And go on to say that Eldrad himself (how old is he?) warned him of Horus' betrayel, and that the Emporer hadn't forseen it and wouldn't believe the speakings of an alien. This leads me to believe that Eldrad is/ was stronger psykically than the Emporer. Then when you come to his rules for the game, they really are pretty $hit.
Now is it that the Emporer was really an okay psyker, marginally better than a Librarian, and the Imperial records are just exaggerating (sp?) or is Eldrads rules really down graded (by miles) for game balance?
I know that Eldar have a couple of Psychic powers to chose from, and with the right equipment, can use more than one. But for a pyschically strong race, I think their powers suck. I want teleportation, fire from the fingertips, ghostly visages of them fighting on thier behalf (remember that power in 2nd ed) and retrieving objects the way the jedi do when they drop their lightsabers. Ohwell.

I think that there are a lot of sides to this.
Firstly, the rules for Eldrad in 40K only represent a few of the things that he can do, and then in the heat of battle.
Secondly, Eldrad's biggest strength is sensing the future to guide the Eldar. He might be extremely good at that, and be able to see years ahead, but in a game about killing each other as quickly as possible, that is only of limited use.
Thirdly, game balance. Even GW realise that if Eldrad (and Marines, the Avatar, etc) got a true representation, Guard armies would die very quickly, etc.
Fourthly, it depends on which side you are on. I guess that the Imperium would say that the Emp was a great man. A very potent psyker, able to tame armies, yadda yadda. They would say that you cant trust the alien Eldar and that the Emp was correct to disbelieve. The Eldar would say that the Emp was short sighted and could not see the problems looming. Who do you believe?

I think a lot of the problem is exageration from both sides. I think that the Emporer was proberly the better Psyker out of the two. His abilities were greater in the present (ie in terms of battle and controlling the warp, men etc) whice Eldrad was a greater psyker in the future (in terms of his ability to see into the future, to twist fate etc). The Emporer proberly ignored Eldrads advice because it came from an alien and be proberly didn't believe that somebody was a better psyker then him. Because he ignored Eldrad, the Eldar saw him as arrogent and weak minded because he wasn't open to suggestion.

I think the problem is with the fluff. On the one hand, you have an ork warlord who almost choking the hell out of the emperor until Horus saved him. On the other. the emperor has been described as being a being of titanic power that banished daemons with but a word. Based on what we know about the C'Tan, any one of them could kick his butt.. especially after the small "Horus" incident.

Personally I think that the Emperor is closer to a god. One thing about the fluff is that it deals with only single events in the life of the Emperor. While he may have been at the mercy of an ork warlord we do not know how long he had been on that battlefeild.
Since he is considered the saviour ok mankind he had to be at least as powerfull as an chaos greater deamon and remember that during the serach for the primarchs he was able to best every one that challanaged him.

Emperor vs. C'tan= Dead C'tan.
He'd win...they aren't so tough. I agree that the whole Ork Warlord thing is a bit iffy, but fluff has to be cinematic as well.

The emporer is clearly a (heavily) genetically modified human who emerged out of the age of strife to lead mankind. He has his own god-gult but is not actually a god himeself just the most powerful human psyker of all time. Oh and at the end of the day he is basically Paul Artriedies.

Greetings, and welcome to the board. Feel free to add comments on anything.
I certainly dont believe he's a God (or was or will be), and agree he was a strong (genetically, maybe) and psychically reasonable powerful human. I heard about other fluff concerning cults such as the star child etc, but dont know the exacts. Its something about him being reincarnated and becoming a God, and fighting the Chaos Gods.

I am not sure in the specifics, but as far as I know there are two off-shoots of the Emp. (I am also not sure if these are the right way around... but anyway...) Sensei - These are the children of the Emp. They have no soul and cast no shadow in the Warp - similar to Harlequin Solitaires. Star Children - These contain a fragment of the Emps soul, and so can be considered to be a reincarnation of him, in a sense. They are powerful psykers. I dont know about the Emp rising to fight the Chaos Gods, but I thought that the Phoenix Lords would do that, in the Rama Dandruff. I think that there is a legend that he will become a God and unite the Galaxy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Sensei purged by the Ordo Hereticus? There was something in the 40K fluff section at the back that was an Inquisitorial report saying that the Sensei were Tzeench worshippers. Or perhaps I'm thinking of a different cult...

I dont know. But I am sure that the Imperium would consider a load of people claiming to be the reincarnation of the Emp both heretical and a threat to their authority!

I say Kill the lot and Let the Orks have a go! ;D
unfortunatly the Thorians are only a small faction within the Imperium and would proberly be overruled, or killed themselves as heretics!
actually, thowing the Imperium they would proberly just kill everybody that knew about it.
