Well I'm putting my Eldar aside, and am going to have a 'proper' game of BFG for a change. I'll be using Imperials. Now all I need to do is choose a fleet. Thats where you guys come in..........Help please! I'll give you a list of what I have. Emporer (just finishing it) Retribution Mars Overlord 2XGothics 3xDictators Tyrant Lunar Dauntless And have some unmade cruisers that could be anything. For escorts 2 Lance ones (forgot name) 7 cobras Anyone got any prelimnary ideas? I'll come back with a list soon.

Okay I've done a preliminary list for you guys to look at.
Emporer Dauntless Lunar Dominator Gothic Overlord Dictator Gothic 4 Cobras 3 Cobras 2 Firestorms 50 point admiral + 1 extra re-roll
I'm remembering the list from last night, so I may have made a slight mistake, but I'm sure I haven't. The list should come to 2005pts. What do you think?

A nice mix of ships. While I am not an Imperial player, you do only ave a single Dauntless. I think that you will not the maximum value from one, as they hunt better in small packs. With a single vessel of this type, it is difficult to put it to good use, as it gets destroyed fairly easily and does not have the ounch to hit hard alone.

I often field a single dauntless class cruser in smaller battles, I just normally attatch it to one of the squadrens (normally the Gothics) so it can use its Lances effectivly, although in 2000pts I normally take a group of 3.
Your fleet appears good Shadow_hunter although it may be lacking in the Firepower department, although that fleet has a lot of fighter waves.
I normally tend to take two Lunars but that is just my opinion.
I normally go for a Mars over a Overlord but I have never used the latter so I can't really comment.

Thanks for the comments so far.
I only have one Dauntless, which is why I'm limited to one. I was thinking of using it along side the firestorms, as they have lances too. That would give me 5 lances, and the dauntless can keep up with them.
My reason for the Overlord is that I either had a Retribution and Mars, or a Emporer and Overlord. I consider the Mars and Overlord to be cheaper versions of the battleships. So which ever battleship I do take, I chose the battlecruiser to do the job of the other one I didn't.
My collection of ships are running out of the battery addons, which is why I had to have 2 gothics.
I didn't want too many Nova cannons, as I've never used them before, so think they would be wasted on me. I think I will probably be out classed in the ordanance department. He has the 400point Chaos battleship, and more than one styx. He also has the other carrier (despoiler?) And I think he will have one of each (his ordanance = 18 Mine = 12). So far I'm expecting his fleet to consist of;
400point Chaos Battleship (name?) Grand cruiser Styx the other carrier plus infidels, iconoclasts and maybe the other ones.

I'll try again! Bloody thing! I chose the Emporer, as then I can have a cheaper Admiral (+1 leadership) and save points. So as I then couldn't afford the Retribution, I chose the Overlord as it is basically a cheaper version. I dont have any more Dauntless, so cant choose any more. I was thinking of using it with my firestorms. It should keep up with them, and it will then be 5 lances from them. I have run out of the battery addons, so cant make any more cruisers with those on, hence the two gothics.

You do know that his Chaos fleet is very illegal, right? You need at least two normal cruisers to take just the Styx, and another two for the Grand Cruiser. In addition, of the four ships, three of them are carriers. If you can get close, you will destroy him, but it is not a very balanced or even 'friendly' enemy fleet.
The Battleship is the Desolator, with 9 launch bays (if I remember correctly). It can be very nasty, but is a huge points sink. Try to avoid it and just keep it in check in the beginning stages. Go for his Styx, that is a great carrier, but very under-gunned, and so if you get a serious few shots at it, it should fall nicely. The Devastation is a great ship, it is best used in a support role, but in the Chaos fleet stated there is nothing to support. I would guess that the Grand Cruiser is the Repulsive, not one of the cross-over newer Vengeance or friends. Watch out for this one, it has great torpedoes, and strength 14 weapons to each side. It is also very fast, you may be forced to simply send your attack craft against it right from the beginning, and then use your fighters to just to counter his and buy yourself time to get close.

Sorry, I've mislead you there. He will undoubtably be using other cruisers, its just that I reckon he will definantly include those I mentioned. He has about 3-4000 points of chaos to choose from, so it'll be a legal list.
I've no experiance with using Imperial, so it should be interesting. With a lot of cobras, I figured they could go hunting the carriers. With maybe the firestorm and duantless to help them.

My regular opponent likes to sneak up and unload all torpedoes from his escort at close range. He can do this as his Cruisers have torps too, and so if the little guys dont last long it does not matter. Is it the Swords with the torps, or the Cobras? Whatever, four to six of them, accompanied by a Dauntless with torps can make a painful hole in an enemy fleet. Trust me, I know!

The torp escorts are cobras (I've got 7 of them) The dauntless cruiser I have is actually the torpedo one, but wanted to try the lance armed one, so I'm using it as that (are there different models?)
Repulsive, yep thats the G.cruiser he has. (I bought it him) I know its a pretty good one, so I'll try and torpedo that. How many turrets does it have?

The Torpedo and Lance Dauntlesses are different models. I put one of those antennas in the prow of the torpedo one, so I can use it as both. If its a torpedo one, I just say its a sensor. If its the lance one, then its a lance, with torpedo tubes being battle damage. (very evenly distributed battle damage! ;D )

Yep, there are two Dauntless minis around but most opponents will alow you to use it as either weapon combo, just let them know.
Personally I prefair a lance armed Dauntless, and use it like I said above.

Definitely Lance-armed Dauntless are the way to go...you have Lunars for torps.
I was going to ask why only one Lunar, but you explained that. Shame really, they're great ships.
I personally adore Retributions as carrying the biggest batteries in the Fleet, but since you're going to be facing down hordes of Dreaclaws than it make sense to take one. Also remember that if you hit a wave of attack craft they all die, so perhaps some Swords or Firestorms on anti-attack craft duty?
Mind you, I don't play Imperial, I play against them with Orks or Chaos. The suggestions above are what my opponent usually does to me.
