First off, Welcome to the Board Orks don't appear to be a very popular fleet and as a result I have never played many. The only Tactics I can give you are the tactics of my cousin who always closes fast with all his ships (avoiding the torpedoes) and then uses brute ram ships to cripple ships and them finish them off with the bigger ships. This tactic normally only works in smaller games though, at larger games the Orks ships are normally destroyed before they can get to close! I think the Ork fleet is gonna get revised soon to a full fleet rather then a pirate fleet, which it is now (according to the website anyway).

Thanks for the welcome. i've looked over bfg mag 10 and they seem to say that the orks weren't ment to be a real strong fleet. just a small pirate fleet. the one thing i know which sucks is that i get compltly killed by bombers i can't seem to avoid them that much ether. otherwise the tactic that you mentioned is similar to what i do. i love ram ships

Hang in there! The eldar are also a "pirate" fleet but we only have real trouble with necrons... Andy C did say that ork fleets are more suited to playing in games like ambush and stuff, though he did add that they will eventually upgrade the ork list to a full war fleet... I tot orks had a space hulks already?? Do they need another battleship? P.S. Welcome aboard!

I will add my welcome to the site here. Orks were originally put together as a pirate raiding fleet. For tactics, check out Gothic Mag 10, where Nate put together a very good article for them. The future sees a lot of developments for the Orks. Da Ammer is made NR, and a model is on the way. The fleet will be redone to enable it to compete with Imperials and Chaos. Also, the ER ordnance rules in Gothic Mag 9 and the Annual should help you against this kind of problem. In general, I thnk that you simply have to try to ignore bombers the best that you can and accept that you will take loses. All the best.

Well I feel ashamed to say it but I'm selling my Orks.
The positive side of it is that its to a guy at my gaming club, so It'll be another opponent. He's thinking of buying some Imperial ships too.
Luckily for him the club only seem to play about 1000pts, and I think Ork are okay for this size.
(I'm selling 2 kruizers [the carrier ones] and about 21 Escorts, no brutes though)
I always assumed they weren't too bad. No leadership test required for all ahead full, 6+ frontarmour and the weapons all face forwards. All points to charging the enemy. And ramming (a cruiser at armour6 and 10 hits would be very good at this) Also with all those warlords doubling boarding values they are deadly at ship to ship fighting. And if ordanance is a worry, you can purchase extra turrets or madmeks for those repairs.
The only downside is there bombers. I dont think they are any good for anything bigger than a light cruiser, with only D3 hits. I'd use them to take out Escorts, and then use your own escorts to gang up on the cruisers with the help of your own. Boarding torpedoes too. They seem good, especially with the orks +1 modifier.

If you sell those Orks and buy Eldar I'll have to hunt you down!
You are right...sadly our boyz in green are not very popular at all. On the other hand I use them against Eldar and Imperial quite often, and have a pretty good win-loss ratio (I seem to win more against Eldar...wierd that). Brute Ramships should be used to guard the flanks of your fleet as for some reason opponents don't expect Ork ships to hang a 90 degree turn all of a sudden. Bombers are a horrific weakness, but you can counter them with interceptor waves...just take two Terror Ships (in large enough games) and keep them chucking out Fighta-Bommers...if there aren't any enemy torps or bombers about send them escort-hunting.
Savage Gunships are utterly brutal and cool and even if you don't get more than two or three into range they're very devastating- one hit takes out an escort remember! DAKKA DAKKA! BOOOOOOOM!!!!!
Boarding is lotsa fun, especially if your value is doubled...take that, Battle Barge!
Space Hulks are a lot of fun...my friends seem to be worried that I'm building one at present...hehehe...sooo much gonpower.
Ravagers are excellent if you put one or two in with nslaught squadrons, and then send the escorts in to attack with a flight of Assault Boats- as the enemy turrets can only attack the torps OR the assault boats they have to make a choice- if they ignore the torps you might get lucky and the attack craft still might do damage, and if they shoot at your torps then your attack craft are free to raise hell!
Good luck- even in a lot of games I won I suffered more losses than I could replace easily. Which is why I usually take a full 2,000 pt Waaagh! fleet so I can own planets...
