i've just got a defence monitor (is it just me - or does anyone else love having those plucky little boxers...) but it had a numer of system ships in there.
they're considerably smaller than the other ships, and it seemed a bit excessive to put one to a base. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas on basing these guys: i thought of mounting a couple to each base and couning them as a little flottila: counting them as a single ship.

Hi, and welcome. You could mount them several to a base. I dont have any of these yet, but reports have said that they are very small - about half the size of an escort. Have a look in the 'Swiftdeath' thread. The bases used there are from Ground Zero, and consist of a stem with six arms. You can cut off a few and bend the others into shape. That might work. You might need to think about the size of the 'foot' of the base, for boarding, Nova, blast markers, etc.

It would be an interesting house rule. I would be quite happy if you were to combine them into one stat. The only down side, is that seperate ships would , as they die, have a reduced effect. Whereas a stand with multiple ships on wouldn't be effected from losing 'wounds' until it becomes crippled. A way around this would be to simply state the following (for example) Three ships of firepower 1 each, assigned to one stand, would have a hit value of 3, but for each hit taken it also loses 1 fire power (plus any other weapons/turrets etc individual ships have) This would then basically be a squardon, but is assigned to one stand. Please note, I've just come back from the pub, so my reply may not make sense in places. Please give me some room for error.

To make things easier, I would probably use the stats unchanegd and simply say that they represent a number of ships, and base them in groups. You can start to worry about losing have the base, but it adds more work. The only trouble is that you will need to but relatively more if you base them in groups.
